The stunning, soaring peaks of Northern Peru seem to go on endlessly into the high Andean cordillera. Blessed with ideal growing conditions, lush green slopes covered with shade grown coffee rise at almost impossible angles from the city of Jaen in Cajamarca. These ideal growing conditions, paired with the high quality of traditional coffee cultivars, has established the region as a beacon for extraordinary coffee production. North of Jaén lies the San Ignacio province, an area that helped establish Peru's specialty coffee industry, and it is here that David Nuñez bought a farm after years working as a coffee picker.
Juicy pear adds a fresh feel to the main flavours of roasted almond and caramel. This dessert like quality is supported by mandarin orange, milk chocolate and sweet brown spice. The apple like acidity adds a tangy bite to the coffee and builds on the orchard like nature of El Cafetal. The body is syrupy and full for a washed coffee, which keeps the fruit and brings out more of those sweeter notes. As it cools, more milk chocolate and vanilla come through.
David's journey began as a coffee picker, travelling from farm to farm, following the seasonal harvest in Peru. Driven by a dream to own his own farm, he saved over many years until he finally bought a plot of land in the heart of San Ignacio. The remarkable transition from a migratory picker to a dedicated farmer showcases his unwavering focus and resolute determination. Now, David channels this same passion into his coffee farming. We're delighted to share this delicious Washed process coffee for the third year in a row and it showcases the result of improvements in David's drying infrastructure. Like the natural process we bought as well, with a farm so small this is a UK exclusive coffee.
