The stunning, soaring peaks of Northern Peru seem to go on endlessly into the high Andean cordillera. Blessed with ideal growing conditions, lush green slopes covered with shade grown coffee rise at almost impossible angles from the city of Jaen in Cajamarca. These ideal growing conditions, paired with the high quality of traditional coffee cultivars, has established the region as a beacon for extraordinary coffee production. North of Jaén lies the San Ignacio province, an area that helped establish Peru's specialty coffee industry, and it is here that David Nuñez bought a farm after years working as a coffee picker.
Ripe strawberry and boozy rum and raisin bring a dessert like foundation to El Cafetal. Underneath sits a milk chocolate and caramel base, with roasted almond adding a moreish note. Candied lemon adds structure across the sweetness, while a hint of coriander seed brings spice and interest behind the fruit. The body is juicy and full, carrying the berry notes. The light roast keeps the fruit, rum and raisin and citrus at the front without losing the chocolate base. It finishes long, the chocolate and dried fruit lingering.

David's journey began as a coffee picker, travelling from farm to farm, following the seasonal harvest in Peru. Driven by a dream to own his own farm, he saved over many years until he finally bought a plot of land in the heart of San Ignacio. The remarkable transition from a migratory picker to a dedicated farmer showcases his unwavering focus and resolute determination. Now, David channels this same passion into his coffee farming. We're delighted to share this delicious natural process coffee for the third year in a row. It’s an exclusive small-lot that captures David's unwavering dedication and the flavours of Peruvian coffee. This natural process coffee is the result of improvements in David's drying infrastructure and with a farm so small this is a UK exclusive coffee.
