Café Granja La Esperanza Mokka: A Rare and Remarkable Coffee

Some coffees pass quietly through the roastery. Others leave a lasting impression. Café Granja La Esperanza Mokka is one of the latter - a rare release at Artisan Roast that offers depth, elegance, and complexity in every cup.

The Story Behind the Coffee

Café Granja La Esperanza is renowned in specialty coffee for producing exceptional, often experimental lots. This Mokka, from their Finca Hawaii in Colombia’s Cundinamarca region, was no exception. Low-yielding and painstakingly grown, it became part of our Pico Lot series — smaller even than a Nano Lot, and extremely limited.

Process and Flavour

Processed using an anaerobic natural method, this coffee developed a layered and distinctive profile.

Early flavours of chocolate, nutmeg, and dried fruit gave way, as the coffee cooled, to prune, vanilla, tropical fruits and tamarind. A dense, creamy mouthfeel was lifted by sherbet-like acidity, creating balance and intrigue. The finish was smooth and lasting, with soft spice and dried fruit quietly lingering.

Brewing and Enjoyment

Best suited to filter methods such as V60, Orea, Aeropress or French Press, this light roast truly shone when brewed slowly and thoughtfully. The clarity of flavour and subtle complexity rewarded patient brewing and drinking.

The Beauty of Limited Coffees

Coffees like this remind us of the fleeting, seasonal nature of specialty coffee. Once this Pico Lot was gone, it was gone — but for those who tasted it, the memory endures.

At Artisan Roast, we continue to seek out rare coffees that offer something beyond the ordinary. Each lot tells a story — and though some are only with us briefly, they leave a lasting mark.
